LOWER MANHATTAN

Holistic Vet, Dr. Marcie Fallek, DVM, CVA - 4.5 Rating on Google

Get to know them!
“My love of animals began when I was very very young. However, initially my education and studies drew me in a different direction. I always had a very inquiring mind and following my pursuit of knowledge and truth, I ended up with a degree in philosophy. This has served me well in my life and my life's work, as I learned to think for myself, to question the accepted norms and to listen and trust my inner voice. As I became a vegetarian when I was 17, I learned the difference between health and dis-ease. I learned to question the synthetic and chemical additives that the food industry was adulterating our food with. I learned a better path to health, rather than just the popping of pills. I knew to question the pharmaceutical companies ' claims of safety and "cures" with their many drugs. I understood their vested interests. As there was not much market for philosophers, after I graduated from college, again, I decided to follow my heart's dream and pursue a life helping and serving animals. I decided to go to veterinary school. I will admit, it was tough going initially, as it seemed less like healing and more like just dispensing the medications that I generally distrusted. Although conventional medicine can certainly be beneficial in many acute and life-threatening conditions, it faces severe limitations and many risks with the drugs used to treat most chronic conditions. But life has a way of unfolding just as it should. A few years into my conventional practice, I had heard about a veterinary acupuncturist in the area. I started to refer some of my difficult cases to him, and indeed, many "miraculous" cures were reported. So when my own rottie-mix developed autoimmune joint disease, most likely the side-effect of a vaccine, I decided to go to take Annie to him, as I was very reluctant to give my beloved dog any of the standard drugs normally recommended for the condition. This was the turning point in my career. Although Annie did not seem to respond to the acupuncture, I was so encouraged by the the successful stories of the many people and their companions that I met in his office that I quickly decided to study acupuncture. That was in 1993. I haven't looked back since. Within 2 years, I began formal studies in classical homeopathy, initially as an option for those animals, particularly cats, that did not enjoy needles stuck in their bodies. What I found in homeopathy was an even more successful way of treating almost every condition, from behavior disorders all the way to cancer. I have been attending approximately 8 -10 conferences and courses a year since then in various modalities. I learned that homeopathy was particularly thriving in Europe, and have been studying in England for the past 12 years. Today, I couldn't be happier. To be a vehicle and a witness to true healing. To see the "incurable" be cured or at least to extend the quality and quantity of life, to a degree considered impossible with conventional medicine. This voyage is a joint endeavor, between me, the animal and their companion on the road to health.”

Gotham Veterinary Center - 4.5 Rating on Google

Get to know them!

“A born and bred New Yorker, Bonnie Brown VMD, CCRP, has been a practicing veterinarian for over 25 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine receiving the J.B. Lippincott Prize for the highest general average and the 1956 Class Medal for Achievement in Pathology, among other honors. Like many animal lovers, Bonnie had to defer her wish to have a pet of her own until she was an adult. While working in theater as a lighting designer, Bonnie fell in love with a golden retriever named Ginger. Her four-legged companion became such an influential part of her life that she wouldn’t take a new job unless the new job took Ginger. Having her dog accompany her to work wasn’t enough, however, and before long, Bonnie made the decision to become a veterinarian.

Bonnie completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery as well as a residency in internal medicine at the Animal Medical Center on Manhattan’s East Side. Following her residency, she served as the Medical Director of the Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center at North Shore Animal League from 1993 to 1999. There she oversaw a staff of 15 doctors and was a member of the senior executive group responsible for the overall direction and mission fulfillment of the NSAL. From 1999 to 2004, Bonnie was a surgeon for the Fund for Animals’ Have-A-Heart Spay and Neuter Clinic. She continued to work in private practice during that time, initially at Animal General. In 2001, she was appointed Chief of Staff at Ansonia Veterinary Center, where she served for five years. Bonnie then started her own practice, Gotham Veterinary Center, which she operated from within City Veterinary Care.  During this early incarnation of Gotham, Bonnie provided care to her own patients while designing and building a new home for her practice. She opened the doors of Gotham Veterinary Center on November 11, 2009, welcoming new and continuing clients and their pets. In 2015 she became certified in canine rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee and opened Canine Rehab of New York.”

University Animal Hospital - 4.5 Ratings on Google

“For more than 25 years, Dr. Zola and his truly remarkable staff have been helping people and their pets on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. “Everyone at University Animal Hospital understands that each pet is accompanied by a concerned owner. I personally assure you that your beloved pet’s health and your satisfaction are our top priorities. Our emergency policy reflects our commitment to you and your pet’s health,” says Dr. Zola. Just like human emergencies, pet emergencies can happen any time. The veterinarians and staff at University Animal Hospital provide complete after-hours emergency service, should your pet require immediate attention for an injury or illness after the hospital is closed.

Located at 354 East 66th Street, between First and Second Avenues, University Animal Hospital has been providing the highest quality medical care possible to pets and their owners on the Upper East Side of Manhattan for more than a quarter of a century. The practice is convenient to all pet owners and pets living on the Upper East Side of NYC.

We offer an extensive range of veterinary services to our clients and their pets. As residents and pet owners living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, our veterinarians are keenly aware and pay particular attention to local disease prevention and wellness care.

Your pet’s preventive care begins with a comprehensive “nose-to-tail” physical examination. Not only can we detect a problem or medical condition during a physical examination, but this gives us a baseline to measure against should your beloved pet become ill in the future. We use a personalized approach to high quality pet care based on you and your pet’s lifestyle. In addition to general wellness examinations and vaccinations, our hospital offers the latest advancements in internal medicine, surgery, dental care and diagnostics. To provide even greater access to superior veterinary care, our veterinarians work closely with New York City veterinary specialists should your pet require more specialized treatments or procedures. This provides even greater convenience as you do not need to leave our Upper East Side veterinary facility to seek more specialized care.

All pets requiring care at University Animal Hospital and our pet boarding guests are closely monitored and supervised by veterinary technicians, nurses and animal attendants who are on premises 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Carnegie Hill Veterinarians - 4.7 Rating on Google

Get to know them!
“Our mission is to provide you and your pet (s) the best possible care. The staff at Carnegie Hill Veterinarians will always strive to provide comfort and understanding in all activities involving our furry friends. From our intimate meeting area to the thorough discharge information, our intent is to make the pet/human experience as pleasurable as possible. We recognize that each pet and pet owner is unique and therefore require an individualized program of care. This means paying attention to details, listening carefully-communicating and being available for consultation. We are your first source for all your pets needs from proper nutrition and behavior, to when to get a MRI or CT Scan.

One example of the customized care we provide is special drop-off and pick-up times for sick or anxious pets. Another important feature of our pet care is making the client-pet owner part of our team through education: i.e., taking time to demonstrate home care. Our experienced and dedicated staff is ever mindful of the importance of the human-animal bond. Our goal is to combine the art and science of veterinary medicine with compassion and wisdom to bring a complete package of pet care to our community.

There's something you ought to know about your veterinarian Alexander Jon Miller. Chances are, your animal's doctor might never tell you, but you'd want to know: Your veterinarian is one of a very small group of doctors who have earned the title ''Diplomate'' from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). What does that mean? It means that your veterinarian made a choice to undergo a very long, very difficult process of additional studies and examination, a process that can take up to three years to complete - to become a Board Certified Specialist.

When the work was accepted and the exam was passed, your veterinarian was awarded the title of Diplomate, It doesn't end there, though. Diplomates must prepare and recertify in their specialty every 10 years.

ABVP Diplomates have proven knowledge and expertise above and beyond what is required to practice veterinary medicine. What's more, they have earned the privilege to specialize in the treatment of one or more categories of animals.

What does all this mean to you? It means that you can rest easy. By having your animals seen by an ABVP Diplomate, you are making sure that they receive expert treatment. Your veterinarian feels a very strong commitment to providing the best possible care. In fact, the only motivation for becoming an ABVP Diplomate Is simply that... Excellence.”

“A note from Dr. Moscovich:

My interest in integrative pet care comes from personal experience. About the time I started veterinary studies, I found myself suffering from severe back pain. My doctors could do little to relive my pain except to offer me the option of surgery. Instead, I found an acupuncturist and a homeopath who brought me back to health. During my recovery, I became interested in using alternative medicine to compliment what I was learning in school. While I was studying for my veterinary degree, I also undertook apprenticeships with acupuncture and homeopathy practitioners. This allowed me to develop my own blend of western and holistic medicine that I’ve used during most of my professional career.

One of my other big interests is animal behavior. Over the years, I’ve observed a high correlation between certain behaviors and specific physical afflictions. This led me to take several seminars on various aspects of the links between animal behavior and health. This is one of many reasons I’ve adopted my “open door” policy, encouraging my patients (and their owners) to drop by for a tasty treat and a casual visit – even when they’re feeling fine. In fact, I often enjoy going out with clients for a chat over a cup of coffee to try to resolve some unwanted behavioral issues.

I look forward to meeting you & your pet!”
